Kitchen remodeling can be both exciting yet overwhelming, especially for those who might be new to the experience all together. Understanding how to incorporate overall flow and function while keeping design concepts in mind can be challenging enough; however, many tend to overlook the smaller details such as small appliances.
Smaller appliances such as over the range microwave units or dishwashers are generally the types of items that tend to be overlooked by homeowners when it comes to their overall kitchen design, either leaving them to make last-minute design changes during the remodel itself, adding on later at further expense, going without said appliance, or having to deal with an option that may be less than desirable.
In order to make sure that you’re prepared for your kitchen remodel, it’s generally a good rule of thumb to consider how you often function within the kitchen to begin with, and what items will be better suited in specific areas by making a list of must-haves or other desirable features. This helps to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your kitchen, the price in which you’re paying for the remodel, and to make sure that you’re happy in the long run.
The size of your kitchen space can sometimes factor into where appliances might end up being in the scheme of things. However, thinking about how you generally prefer to travel, or what seems most logical, in order to use the appliances in mind is often a good thing to think about in advance as well. This way you’re ensuring better function when using your kitchen.
It’s often a good idea to think about where to place certain appliances in advance, as well as what you’d rather have be a built-in feature or something that’s more conventional and on the counter. A good example of this would be a countertop microwave versus that of one that’s built-in. While many prefer to have their microwaves near or above the stove, for instance, they might also have it in mind to have a hood placed in the same spot or other feature.
Generally, items that may require quick access to the refrigerator, sink, or stove may be better-suited near such items to make the flow of a kitchen more accessible and efficient. For example, one may prefer to have a dishwasher closer to the sink to prevent less water from dripping onto the floor if they like to rinse dishes beforehand, while others may prefer things close to where dishes are put away.
Knowing ahead of time what type of appliance you want and researching it properly, as well as comparing it to other brands or models, is also another thing that homeowners may wish to consider and can save you from a world of headache later on. For example, microwave ovens these days come with more and more features as technology progresses, with specific brands such as ge microwave units boasting many desired functions that others may lack.
